Student Deadlines Approach for 9th Annual UC Davis Film Festival
Student film submission deadlines fast approach for the Department of Theatre and Dance 9th Annual UC Davis Film Festival. Produced in association with the UC Davis Program in Technocultural Studies and co-sponsored by Film Studies and Art Studio, the festival gives student filmmakers across the campus the opportunity to project their movies on the big screen at the Davis Varsity Theatre in downtown Davis.
Submission Details
Students: Do you have a short film that you and your friends made or are making? A heart-wrenching dramatic piece to show your depth, or maybe a documentary, commercial, or class project to share? Well, here’s your chance!
Eligibility: • Any film made by a UCD student within the past 24 months. This includes films from students who have graduated and whose films were made while at UCD. • Films may be no longer than 10 minutes, including credits.
Format for submissions: • Mini DV (HD or Standard) • Data DV (containing high quality AVI computer file without compression .avi, .mov) • The Mini DV format is best. The data files will work. Please do not submit playable DVDs.
Deadlines: • The festival is accepting pre-submissions that can be up to 15 minutes in length, for filmmakers interested in getting feedback from faculty on how to improve various aspects (such as editing).
Pre-submissions are due March 17, 2009 for faculty private review and feedback sessions with filmmakers on April 4 and 5. • Final submissions are due May 15, 2009 for judges’ final selection.

Prizes and awards including visits to Hollywood film and TV sets will be given for the following categories: (in no particular order)
Audience Choice Award Best in Show Best Experimental Short Film Best Screenplay Best Editing Best Music Video Best Sound Design Best Animation Best Commercial Best Production Design Best Comedy Short Best Costume Design Best Dramatic Short Film Best Documentary Best Director Best Cinematography Best Original Music
Festival screening will take place May 27 and 28, 2009 at 8:30 pm at the Davis Varsity Theatre, 616 Second Street, Davis.
There is a collection box for submissions located in the Theatre and Dance Department Main Office, #222 Wright Hall.
Tickets will be available in advance at the Davis Varsity Theatre.
