The MFA Program in Directing welcomes individuals who have pursued a professional
career in theatre and now wish to extend their study into new areas of challenge
and expertise. MFA candidates focus on developing directing skills within an interdisciplinary
context, and we encourage exploration in the areas of theatre, dance, music, video
and film. MFA students further benefit from working with the many professional theatre
artists who visit the department, including those in the Granada Artist-in-Residence
program.
Students entering the program should have clearly delineated goals for achieving
a unified artistic voice and a strong point of view toward the theatre and performing
arts. A slot in the department's production schedule, Director's Showcase I, is
reserved for a first-year directing student. The student's second year of study
will culminate in Director's Showcase II, the MFA Thesis Project.
