The MFA in Choreography welcomes individuals who have pursued a professional performance
career in dance and now wish to extend their skills in choreography. Having already
achieved a high level of technical expertise, MFA candidates focus their studies
on understanding and articulating a choreographic vision within an interdisciplinary
context. The department encourages collaboration across the disciplines and provides
opportunities to explore new areas in directing, acting, voice work, and other fields
of interest.
The MFA in Choreography is a two-year program. In the first year, candidates meet
with the choreography adviser to plan a course of study that develops their conceptual
and intellectual abilities, strengthens their artistic vision, and supports their
professional goals. This course of study culminates in a thesis production as part
of the Department's Premiere Season during the second year.
In preparation for the thesis choreography, candidates are encouraged to produce
work in their first year of study by participating in the annual Main Stage Dance/Theatre
Festival, creating choreography for theatrical productions, taking part in Sideshow
Physical Theatre productions, and working with Granada Artists-in-Residence and
other visiting artists.
