MFA Program in Acting views actors as artists who make art with their own bodies,
as distinguished from choreographers and directors who make art with the bodies
of others. The coursework includes exploration of body, mind, spirit and voice through
new approaches to actor training such as Fitzmaurice Voicework, Shamanic Journeying,
Body Energy Centre Work and BodyMind Breathwork as well as the more established
approaches of Stanislavski, Grotowski and Chekhov.
We invite applications from actors, performers, and innovators with varied experiences,
including devised work, mainstream performances, film and television, community
theatre and wherever the principles of theatrical communication exist. Candidates
should have clearly delineated goals for achieving a unified artistic voice and
a strong point of view toward the theatre and performing arts.
During the two-year program, we encourage interdisciplinary exploration of theatre,
dance, music, video and film and provide ample opportunities to work with nationally
and internationally known visiting artists and with fellow MFA candidates and undergraduates
in all disciplines.
