Lishi and Traditional Chinese Movement Workshops Presented by Visiting Artist Desmond Murray February 6 - 8 University Club, UC Davis
Free of charge Open to the public. Guests may attend single or multiple sessions. Please bring soft-soled shoes and lunch.
Hosted by the Department of Theatre & Dance and the College of Chinese Physical Culture in Europe, the workshops teach interactive exercises for healthier, less stressful and more balanced lives, and include some specific instruction in Daoist movement forms.
Workshops will occur at the UC Davis University Club on: Friday, February 6, 1-4pm Saturday, February 7, 11am-1.30pm and 1.30-4pm. Sunday, February 8, 11 - 3pm is a special session on the silk and fan (bring your own 4 foot piece of lightweight silk or scarf, and a fan)
Desmond Murray is the President of the International Daoist Society and the overseas president of the Weihai Wu Shu Association of Shangdong province, China. He was a senior student of Chee Soo for many years. Chee Soo spread the practice of Chinese Daoist movement in Europe from the 1950s to the 1990s. Mr Murray now exchanges training with many practitioners in China.
Mr Murray is the senior teacher of the Weihai Lishi Quanfa, an ancient Daoist practice that retains the characteristics of a full family system. Elements include daoyin (Daoist breathing techniques), Kaimen, T’aiji, Flying Hands form, Adhering/whirling hands, Whirling arms, Qigong, Dynamic foot/leg and hand work, Hand of the Wind partner work, joint manipulation, Stick and Staff forms, Sword and Sabre forms, Silk and Fan forms.
Mr. Murray is also the Principal of The College of Chinese Physical Culture which has helped thousands of people to improve the quality of their lives, develop new skills that make them more employable, gain qualifications where they had none, and improve their health and well-being.
